This policy explains in plain language how your information is collected, used and protected when you use Waygo. For the legal details, see the Personal Data Notice (KVKK).
In short
- Your phone number is never shown to the other party to the ride. Messaging and calls happen inside the app.
- Voice calls are not recorded.
- Payment is currently in cash; Waygo does not collect card details. When card payment is added, your card details will not be stored by Waygo; they will be processed by a licensed payment institution.
- We don't sell your data and don't share it with third parties for advertising.
- You can delete your account from the app at any time.
Location
The rider app only uses your location while you are using the app: to show where you are on the map, suggest a pickup point and let you follow the driver during the ride.
The driver app also uses location in the background for as long as the driver is online. This is needed to send nearby requests and to let the rider follow the car live. A persistent notification is shown on the phone during this time. Location tracking stops when the driver taps "Go offline".
Location permission can be turned off in your phone settings at any time. Without location, however, booking a ride or taking jobs as a driver won't work.
Camera, gallery and microphone
- Camera and gallery: to send photos in messages and for drivers to take their identity verification selfie. Selfies can only be taken with the live camera.
- Microphone: only during in-app voice calls.
Location information (EXIF) is removed from photos before they are sent.
Notifications
Notification permission is requested for ride status, message, call and safety notifications. Campaign notifications are only sent if you give separate consent.
Safety features
- SOS: when you press SOS during an active ride, the ride, vehicle, driver, rider and location details are sent to the operations team and a safety record is created.
- Share your ride: the person you share with can see the driver's name, the licence plate and the car's location until the ride ends. Your phone number is not shared.
- Route deviation: if the car departs noticeably from the planned route, you and the operations team are notified.
Ratings and comments
The ratings you give at the end of a ride count towards the other party's average. Your comments are only seen by the Waygo team and are not shown to the other party under your name.
How your data is protected
- All connections are encrypted (HTTPS/TLS).
- Sensitive fields (such as Turkish ID numbers) are stored encrypted in the database.
- Staff only see the data their task requires; access to ride messages requires entering a reason, and every access is logged.
- Administrator actions are kept in tamper-proof audit records.
Children
A Waygo account can only be opened by people aged 18 or over.
